Kearsarge 5, Sanborn 1
Key players: Kearsarge – Ella Stocker (2 goals), Adara Boucher (goal), Carly Grant (goal), Val Soule (goal)
Highlights: Sanborn used its speedy counterrattack to go up 1-0 early in the match, but Boucher scored the equalizer 20 minutes later to make it 1-1 at halftime. Grant scored in the second half to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead and Stocker netted two goals in a four-minute span to make it 4-1. Joleigh Root’s rocket of a shot hit the crossbar and Soule trapped the rebound, sending it back into the net to wrap up the scoring.
Coach’s quote: “Definitely not our best game of the season. We opened up really flat and (disorganized). Luckily, we did enough to stay in the game. Girls finally woke up in the second half and played the way we know they can. They showed great resiliency coming back after going down early. It’s that kind of fight we need going forward. Props to Sanborn who battled hard and fought to the final whistle.” – Kearsarge’s Dave Smith
