Inflation. The economy. Crime. All important issues. Voting for one party or the other might or might not make a difference on these issues (though if you vote for a specific party because you think they will solve the global problem of inflation, and it is a global problem, you are delusional). But these issues pale in insignificance before the real crisis that faces us. One party still believes in the right to vote for all citizens, and one does not. One party still believes in free and fair elections and accepting the results of those elections, and one party does not. Whether or not the American experiment in democracy continues is the main question on the ballot.

If you wish to preserve small-d democracy, you must vote capital-D Democratic in this election, regardless of your opinions on policy issues. If you choose to vote Republican, you should really savor the experience, because it may be the last vote you or anyone else casts in a free and fair election for generations to come. It took 5,000 years of history to finally crawl out from under the thumb of “might makes right” tyranny. Don’t throw away the most sacred American right, the right to vote in real elections, for the sake of some transient, and possibly illusory advantage. If you are a true patriot, you have only one choice in the upcoming elections. Preserve democracy. Deny the election deniers (even those who deny that they’re deniers).
