Letter: Mothers and daughters

Back in the 1980s and 90s, I was fortunate to work with many wonderful Republican women: Susan McLane of Concord and Betty Tamposi of Nashua among them. Susan ran for Congress in the Republican primary in 1980 and Betty ran in 1988. Neither won their primary, but they had set a stage.

Susan’s daughter, Ann McLane Kuster, ran for Congress in 2012 and was elected where she has served for 12 years. Now Betty’s daughter, Maggie Tamposi Goodlander is running to replace Ann. I haven’t seen this noted elsewhere, but here we have two women who were clearly motivated toward public service by their families, especially their mothers. Republican moms, Democratic daughters.
