St. Paul’s School junior running back Malcolm Bussey was named the 2019 Gatorade New Hampshire Football Player of the Year on Friday.
The 5-foot-11, 196-pound Bussey used a devastating mix of speed and power to rush for 1,436 yards and 22 touchdowns on 123 carries, an average of 11.7 yards per run. The Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia native helped the Big Red to a 9-0 record, extending it’s winning streak to 19 games, and capped the season by rushing for 229 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries in a 35-20 win against Dexter Southfield in the Dave Coratti NEPSAC Bowl Game at Gillette Stadium.
“Malcolm is the best running back we have played against in nine years of me being here,” said Joe Linata, the head football coach at Hamden Hall in Hamden, Conn. “He is a high school version of Christian McCaffery.”
Not only does McCaffery, a running back for the Carolina Panthers, lead the NFL in total yards from scrimmage (1,811), he was a two-time Gatorade Award winner in Colorado in 2012-13.
