In a recent article, Gov. Sununu is quoted as criticizing President Biden for “forcing people to choose between their jobs and livelihood or the vaccine” (Monitor, 9/11). This is a blatant falsehood. The president’s plan does not mandate vaccination. It requires companies with more than 100 employees to give their workers a choice, not between vaccination and being fired but between vaccination and weekly testing for COVID-19, an eminently reasonable step in attempting to protect workers and control the pandemic.

Republicans, including Sununu, are all too happy, in this and many other instances, to twist the truth to try and make the president look bad. Shame on them. Additionally, the article’s introductory paragraph reinforced the falsehood with the wording, “…(Biden’s) push to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for up to 100 million American workers.” There was no effort in the article to quote the president precisely, leaving the false impression that the Republicans’ charge that he is trying to “force private companies and their workers to take the vaccines” is valid. I would hope the Monitor would require more honest and accurate reporting and that Gov. Sununu would decline to join his fellow Republican governors in their politics-driven dishonesty and support President Biden in his efforts to protect his fellow Americans from the ravages of this pandemic.
