A Belmont man who had worked in local schools, including as a substitute this fall in Concord, is facing felony sexual assault charges in Boscawen and Northfield.
Nicholas Joslin, 42, was arrested this week and charged with two counts of felonious sexual assault and one count of simple assault.
Court records state that Joslin was both an employee of the Northfield charter school where the victim was a student and her temporary, court-appointed guardian. The girl, who was 13 at the time, told investigators about an assault that occurred on their drive to school in May of 2024, according to Northfield police.
Concord Superintendent Tim Herbert told district parents in an email Thursday afternoon that Joslin had been an on-call substitute who worked a total of seven days between Concord High School, Rundlett Middle School and Abbot-Downing School this school year.
Herbert noted that Joslin had been fully vetted and passed a background check, per district protocols, before he was hired and has now been removed from the district’s substitute list.
Herbert added that school crisis teams have been notified and encouraged any students with questions or concerns to reach out to a school counselor or other trusted adult.
At an arraignment Wednesday, Joslin entered no plea in the two sexual assault charges and pleaded not guilty to simple assault. He was released on bail. A hearing is scheduled for December.
