Old time baseball remembered
This letter is to thank you for reprinting the story by Matt Breen, run by the Philadelphia Inquirer in the Monitor Sports section on Dec. 9. That was the story about ‘Tony’ Lupien and his grandson, John Cena, and Tony’s career from minor league play with the Hollywood Stars all the way to coach of the Dartmouth college teams.
As a long-time minor league baseball fan who grew up in Los Angeles, my family attended many of the old minor league Los Angeles Angels (no connection to the current major league team from Anaheim) games during the late 1940s and early 1950s. They played many games against their cross-town rivals, the Hollywood Stars, so I’m sure I would have seen Mr. Lupien play during his stint with them — though at the time I never dreamed I would someday be a resident of New Hampshire. So I was pleased to know that connection.
That’s probably why I do enjoy the Fisher Cats games now and just wanted to say, “Thanks for the pleasant memories.”
