It’s a big day for Concord when a wrestler reaches 100 career wins. In unprecedented fashion, three seniors, Maximus Chung, Jaxon Carter and Wayne Gutierrez-Sakakeeny, reached that milestone on home turf on Saturday at the Concord Super Quad.
Coming off a win in the Keene Minickiello Tournament, the Crimson Tide swept through its invited competition on its red mats and beat Goffstown (41-29), Winnacunnet (75-0), Manchester Central (84-0), Manchester Memorial (75-0) and Pinkerton Academy (45-24).
Jaxon Carter (150 pounds) was the first of the three to get his 100th win. His first win of the day was against Manchester Central’s Zachary Heile with a pin to start the day off with a bang.
He finished the day with four wins and only fell once by decision, 10-3, against Goffstown’s Ian Campbell. Overall, he felt good about the win and affirmed that all his hard work paid off.
“Our senior class is pretty strong,” Carter said. “We have three guys who got their 100-wins today, so we’re pretty good, and I think we should be competing for a state title.”
Wayne Gutierrez-Sakakeeny was the second one to reach the milestone on the day. The 285-pound grappler finished as a runner-up in the 2025 Meet of Champions and has come out with a vengeance this season.
The heavyweight showed why he’s among the state’s best. He used good positioning and strong lower body to beat Manchester Memorial sophomore Ashten Pautnaude. He was able to control the match throughout until pinning Pautnaude. He got three other wins on the day and only fell during his last bout of the day.
“It’s great,” Gutierrez-Sakakeeny said about the milestone win as he rolled up the mats with teammates. “I definitely didn’t expect it to happen. I knew Jaxon and I were going to get it the same day. I didn’t know Max was so close.”
The crowd stood still, expectantly awaiting Max Chung (175 pounds) to reach his milestone. He had already won three bouts, but he didn’t let it get to his head.
His match against Winnacunnet’s Connor Nicol wasn’t given. Chung battled for the win and, after a few resets, he was able to find a way to pin Nicol for the win. The Concord parents in the stands cheered him on, and the whole gym was once again called to attention to honor a Tide wrestler on the center mat.
Chung won his last bout by technical fall, 18-3, against Pinkerton’s Landon O’Donnell, to cap off a near-perfect day for him and his team.
“Just like showing consistency and hard work,” he said as he reflected on the accomplishment. “Improving a little every day, that was my mindset.”
All three were happy to get the wins for themselves and their team. Besides reaching the milestone together, all three shared one more thing in common that day: their intention to win a state title.
Chung, Carter and Sakakeeny-Gutierrez all fell just short of winning their weight classes last year at the Meet of Champions. They’ve had to live with that chip on their shoulders but Saturday was confirmation that they’re on the right path.
