Hockey players of all ages hit the ice on a cold Friday morning for the first day of the Black Ice Pond Hockey tournament.

Despite colder temperatures forecast for later in the weekend, the sun shone through and provided some warmth for the players and spectators for the first day of action. Though the players bundled up especially for the early puck drops.

The warming tent and Merrimack Lodge at White Park kept spectators warm throughout as games ran non-stop from 9 a.m. through 8 p.m on Friday.

This year’s tournament is the 15th annual installment and features 65 different teams ranging from the 18+ Open to the 50+ categories.

The tournament will last through the weekend, with elimination and championship games scheduled to start and finish on Sunday.
