How did car inspections get repealed?

How did motor vehicle inspections come to be repealed? The repeal was attached to the state budget by a 14-member committee that included 12 Republicans, including Jason Osborne, a reputed Free Stater. The repeal was added to the must-pass budget because it failed to pass as a stand-alone bill. It is a reckless action that defies public safety and puts us in federal court, spending money we donโ€™t have defending a repeal that violates the clean air act.

Apparently, Mr. Osborne was heard saying that ending auto inspections was something voters dearly want. How can politicians just say these things? This voter wants inspections and I bet there are lots of others who want their loved ones to drive on safe roads where cars have good brakes and tires are not bald. We also want clean air. Itโ€™s only the anti-regulation, climate-denier Free Staters who wanted to end inspections just like they want to end our public schools and local government control of cities and towns.

Is this how these extremists are going to ram through their minority ideology in our state? Budget committees should not be able to attach bills to the budget that fail the regular legislative process. Maybe that is why the Free Staters chose New Hampshire. Our system makes it easy for them to take control of our state even though they are an extremist minority.

Check who your legislator is โ€” are they aligned with the Free State Project? Do you really want what they want?
