Volunteers made Nordic skiing happen
It’s been a great Nordic skiing season in Hopkinton for competitive athletes and recreational skiers. Thanks are due to the athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents who contributed to a very successful season for Hopkinton’s Nordic ski teams. The varsity girls took first place in the Division II state championships and the boys took second. The middle school teams placed second out of more than 20 middle school teams from across the state. More than 50 elementary-school skiers also hit the trails every week as part of Blackwater Nordic Ski Club’s Bill Koch Youth Ski League program. To name a few of those who helped: high school coaches Rob Rothe and Russ Leino, middle school coaches Amy Rothe and Julie Zapton, BKL coordinator Linden Rayton and the volunteers who made the ski trails at Hopkinton Fairgrounds accessible to all. Steve Eckberg and Jason Lang of Blackwater Nordic Ski Club and Coach Rothe spent countless hours in freezing weather running the grooming equipment. Kudos to all!
