How did we get here?
I recently read an article mentioning the history of events and transformations people born in the 40s, such as myself, have lived through. Not that I hadn’t thought about this before, but it usually pertained to my grandparents who immigrated due to the Holocaust, or my neighborhood as a kid where a man would come around with his horse, pulling a wagon chanting “ I cash clothes.”
The article mentioned the simplicity of the times: erasers, handwritten notes, vinyl records, marbles, dial telephones, walking to your nearest public school … you get the idea. The shift from analog to digital and all that changes that brought, not only to our way of doing things, but in how we had to think.
Politically, we lived through some incredible incidents, not innocent at all. McCarthy hearings, assassinations of John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., the Cuba Crisis, Vietnam and on into the present with the World Trade Center. I’m sure there’s some crisis I am omitting.
What’s my point? In all my life I have always felt secure. Sure in the knowledge that good will prevail, that decency and kindness will prevail, that the voices that stand for honesty, virtue, integrity and compassion will prevail. Not anymore. President Trump and his bootlickers have cast a darkness and shadow, not only over our country , but the world. Not to be dramatic, but his lunacy has created an unsettling chaos that will take years to fix.
Come out March 28. Vote during the midterms. He and his minions have got to go.
