Where’s the pot of gold?
Thank you Hopkinton voter Amy Bogert, quoted in a Monitor front page story on March 16. “If the state keeps cutting money to the towns, how can they require us to continue to incur costs?”
It’s a question everyone who lives in New Hampshire should be asking. Town elections were just held where many funding articles failed because of their impact on property taxes.
The party in charge in Concord wants you to believe it’s your towns being wasteful, when in reality legislators are diverting our tax dollars, money intended for our schools, vital services and infrastructure, toward special interests.
For years we’ve been promised a “pot of gold” if we only reduced the onerous burden of taxes on the wealthy. But now we find the pot empty and our towns starved for funding.
Remember to ask this question when you go to the polls in November.
