Support for Second Start
I understand the difficulties facing the Concord School Board given the budget deficit they are facing. However, I do think they need to take a closer look at the value of the Second Start program before reducing its allocation.
A few years ago, a child in one of my CASA cases was having a difficult time adjusting to Concord High and, essentially, was not doing any school work. I was aware of Second Start and thought it could be helpful to him, but he did not want to make the move. I was able to persuade him to give it a try and once he made the move, it made a major positive difference from his first day there.
I view it as a very valuable althernative program and I hope there is a way to continue the level of support they have received over the years.
