A brush fire along the center median and westbound side of I-393 in Concord was knocked down in about 20 minutes, alleviating temporary traffic interruptions on that route.
A company with the Concord Fire Department was returning from a training at the New Hampshire Fire Academy on Monday afternoon when the fire broke out, according to Deputy Chief Mick Costello.
The company was able to respond to the fire before the first call came in at 3:09 p.m., extinguishing it within 20 minutes, Costello said. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Costello noted that the roadside blaze in Concord was not the only brush fire in the area, with dry conditions considerably augmenting the region’s fire risk. He underscored the importance of safely disposing smoking materials and refraining from kindling fires without a permit.
“This time of year in particular, there’s no growth yet, everything is dry from basically no green to allow things to keep moisture. Until things green up, we tend to see more fire danger,” he said.
