Biodiversity, war and our future
As our nation is subjected to daily and massive doses of insanity, I make it my daily priority to get outside for a hearty dose of nature. Being with brooks and among trees, hearing birds sing and discovering animal tracks reminds me that I belong to a family of over 8 billion humans who share the planet with an estimated 1.7 million different animal and plant species.
Iran is home to 514 species of birds and 194 different animals. I canโt help but wonder what they do? How can they fly through the fire and thick smoke?
Wars disregard biodiversity. The suffering is immeasurable. The costs threaten the ecology and burdens our economy. Wars destroy global partnerships and international trust. It will take generations to regain respect. All the while, the U.S. military is being directed to destroy an area considered โthe cradle of civilization.โ For what?
Oil, greed and power. Consider the cost โ drilling, refining, shipping, oil spills and global warming. Trump is threatening to bomb nuclear sites in Iran, which will poison the whole region with radioactive fallout.
China must be riding high watching Trumpโs attempt to control and build the oil industry. China is leading the world in solar production and manufacturing. They are so far ahead of the game!
The sun has provided Earth with a source of energy since the beginning of time. We donโt have to fight for it. No one must die for it. No need to ship it. Earth does a wonderful job of turning and tilting to provide solar energy for all and at no cost.
When this is all behind us, let’s rebuild our nation as a partner in the world and a caretaker for the planet.
