Heath Howard calls for Trump’s impeachment

In a primary election, voters rely on candidates to be accurate about their records. That’s a basic expectation, and it matters most in a crowded field where voters are trying to sort out real differences between candidates.

Recently, Christian Urrutia told supporters he is the only Democrat in the NH-01 race who has called for Donald Trump’s impeachment. That claim is not true. Heath Howard has also taken that position and has been publicly recognized for it.

This isn’t simply a matter of interpretation. It is, at best, a factual error. And when a campaign makes a claim like that, it naturally raises a broader question about how much confidence voters should have in the rest of its messaging.

In a race such as this, candidates are competing to define themselves; that’s part of the process. But those distinctions should be based on things voters can trust — positions, judgment and experience — not claims that don’t hold up when checked.

Most voters don’t have the time to verify every statement they see in a campaign email. They rely on candidates to represent themselves honestly. When that breaks down, even in a small way, it matters.

New Hampshire voters take that responsibility seriously. We pay attention, we ask questions and we expect straightforward answers. Candidates should meet that standard.
