A Webster man pleaded guilty Friday for building three pipe bombs and detonating two in Weare.

Dale Stewart, 57, was charged with three counts of possessing an unregistered firearm after setting off homemade bombs on Dustin Tavern Road and Sugar Hill Road in 2023, said U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan in a statement.

Law enforcement officers searched Stewart’s vehicle, where they found an undetonated pipe bomb. It was made of white PVC pipe with glued end caps that had a single green hobby fuse through it, all wrapped in black electrical tape. The device had over four ounces of explosive material, most likely similar to the two exploded bombs.

Stewart admitted during police questioning that he had constructed the bombs in his Webster home.

The charges could carry a sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Stewart is scheduled for sentencing on July 30.
