Salem, NH – Stanley Herrick Robinson, age 78, of Salem, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Oct. 9, 2026, at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown, NH. Stan was born on March 14, 1948. He leaves his wife Beth Jordan Robinson and his three children, Sarah, Matt and Ben and their families: Sarah Robinson, Ellery and Lilly Thompson; Matt and Brook Robinson, Eli, Luke and Evie; and Ben and Sarah Robinson, Margot, Zoe and Teddy. He also leaves siblings, Howard, Tom and Marte. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice and William Robinson, and his brother Bill. Stan will be remembered for his unconditional love for his family and friends, zest for life, sense of humor and keen wit.
Stan grew up in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, where he graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1966. He attended Trinity College and earned his law degree from St. Louis University. He then made his home in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, including Franklin, Hill and Tilton. Stan practiced law and served the community in New Hampshire for nearly 40 years.
Stan was a devoted fan of the Boston Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots, and a lifelong Bob Dylan and Grateful Dead fan. He enjoyed golf, reading, and poetry. He was an active member of the Franklin Unitarian Universalist Church, where he also served on the board and was a significant contributor to the running of the Bread and Roses Soup Kitchen for many years. He was a strong advocate for education for his family and others, serving on the board of Sant Bani School, where his wife taught and children attended school for years. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Stan was an avid reader and enjoyed a variety of intellectual pursuits. He was a collector of books and music. He loved mystery, satire, history and poetry. He dreamt of opening a used bookstore. He was a whiz at crossword puzzles and could often be seen with one, pen in hand in his recliner with a cup of strong coffee nearby. He enjoyed heated games of Trivial Pursuit
and Scrabble, and he could beat us all (almost!). He wrote many poems and loved using puns and roasting people with his wit. He was instrumental in publishing the History of Franklin, interviewing, collecting and compiling information on the town from community members. Stan was a great advocate and supporter for human rights and ran for political office. He was actively engaged in politics and community service and served on the Tilton, NH, Democratic committee. He was also an active member of the Rotary Club, where he consistently participated in fundraising.
Stan loved camping and being outdoors. He was affectionately known as “Campin’ Stan.” When traveling on family vacations, stops always included used book stores and Big Lots to pore over endless titles and find a roll of much needed duct tape.
He was “brave, courageous and bold and long may his story be told.”
