I’ve noticed many Democratic activists flooding the editorial pages recently claiming to be experts on the Senate’s constitutional duties when it comes to Supreme Court nominations.
Sadly, some are badly misinformed and have resorted to reading words into our founding document that just aren’t there.
Here are the facts: the president appoints a nominee, and the Senate advises and consents on the president’s nominees. Sen. Kelly Ayotte has helped confirm more than 100 of President Obama’s presidential appointments. And now the advice the Senate is giving the president is that he should not move forward with this process.
Since we’re right in the middle of a presidential election year, I think that’s pretty wise advice. Thank you, Kelly, for doing your job. I wonder if others will follow your lead and let us have a say in our representative democracy.
