■The Greater Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the annual Children’s Store and Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration again this year on Dec. 7. Donation boxes for new or gently used items are at the Pittsfield Post Office, Epping Well, Northway Bank, Main Street Variety, Town Hall and Jitters Café. Items donated should be appropriate for kids to purchase as gifts for their parents, family, friends and teachers. Please no clothing. We are always short on items for men, so if you’re out and about shopping, please consider picking up a few items to donate (small tools, flashlights, work gloves, hats, coffee mugs). The Children’s Store is kids only shopping at kid-friendly prices (most items are $1). Free gift wrapping is available. The Children’s Store is held at PES Gym from 9 a.m. to noon.
■The PES PTO is sponsoring Breakfast with Santa at PES Cafeteria on Dec. 7 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Price is $3 or two for $5. There will be free horse and wagon rides, hot cocoa, cookies, candy canes, popcorn, visit and pictures with Santa, face painting, holiday music and caroling, gingerbread house display and raffle (inside PYW), holiday storytime, free raffle for a live Christmas tree, hot soups/chili/chowders available for a small monetary or non-perishable food donation and of course, the lighting of the tree at 6 p.m.
■The Chamber is sponsoring a Decorated Wreath Contest at the Tree Lighting on Dec. 7. Everyone is invited to bring a decorated wreath (anyway you’d like) to Dustin Park. The wreaths will be displayed inside PYW and will be judged by the public. The winner will be announced at 6 p.m. and will receive a $50 cash prize. Please drop your wreath off by 3:45 p.m. at PYW and pick up your wreath by 6:15 p.m. Any wreaths that are not picked up will be donated to local groups. The contest is open to everyone! ■Pittsfield Secret Santa Fund is back again this year! The fire department is accepting applications from those in need of assistance this holiday season. Applications will only be accepted until Nov. 30, to allow time to prepare gifts for everyone. Children must be 14 years of age or younger to be eligible. The child’s parent or legal guardian must be the one to apply, and both they and the child must be residents of Pittsfield.
