Vice President Mike Pence’s Tuesday trip to New Hampshire was abruptly cancelled after President Donald Trump called Pence back to the White House, according to a Massachusetts GOP official. The vice president was set to give remarks on the opioid crisis at the Granite Recovery Center in Salem.

Tom Mountain, a liaison between the New Hampshire and Massachusetts Republican state committees, said Secret Service told the crowd gathered inside Granite Recovery that the event was cancelled about 11 a.m., minutes before Pence was scheduled to land in Manchester.

“We don’t know for what. It doesn’t sound good,” Mountain said.

Dozens of people had gathered outside of the recovery center before the event was cancelled. Granite Recovery workers outside of the center declined to speak to reporters and were unsure why the event was cancelled.
