Police have cited a Concord man who they say was distracted by his cell phone when he drove into a single-family home Sunday night on Ridge Road.
J. Keith McFetridge, 38, blew a stop sign at the intersection of Franklin Street and Ridge Road before crashing his sedan shortly before 8 p.m., said Concord police Lt. Tim O’Malley.
The vehicle struck solid wall and lodged itself three-quarters of the way into a computer room, homeowner Robert Senko said. He said Monday afternoon that he was waiting for an adjuster to assess the damage, which he called significant.
Senko, his wife, Christine, and their two children were home at the time. No one was injured, including McFetridge, who was traveling alone, O’Malley said.
One person was in the kitchen and heard a loud bang, but no one witnessed the crash, O’Malley said. The home filled with smoke after the incident, and the car sustained substantial damage, he added.
McFetridge was issued summonses for using an electronic or mobile device while operating a vehicle and for disobeying a traffic control device. O’Malley said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
This is not the first time McFetridge has been cited for using his cell phone while driving in the capital city. O’Malley said police issued McFetridge a warning in July for violating the hands free law.
