What a disgraceful show of contempt and disrespect shown to citizens of this state by some members of the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee, who wore pearl necklaces during a hearing on the “red flag” gun law (Monitor front page, March 6).
Public hearings are meant to be used to hear the public’s opinions about pending legislation, not a time for members to have an in-your-face opposition statement before listening to both sides of the issue. Last week we saw an example of true tribal politics. How can we have confidence in our elected officials when they show such callous disregard for people’s opinions? How can we feel that they will be impartial and listen to the facts when they so flagrantly show their preferences before a meeting even begins?
