A few years ago, I was hiking in the Oak Hill trail system when a woman passed me, running. I remember feeling so impressed and inspired. I thought: I could do that! I gradually built up a running practice that gives me strength, stress relief and patience. I love the Oak Hill trails, and every time I run I am so thankful of their beauty, right in Concord.

That day, I got back to my car and there was a business card tucked under the wiper from Amanda Grappone of Grappone Automotive. The note read, “Thank you for your business! Happy trails!” and I realized that it was Amanda that I had passed. The best car-buying experience I have ever had was at Grappone, and Amanda must have seen the license plate holder on my car. We are lucky to have this family-owned, conscientious business in our community. Thank you so much for your inspiration, Amanda.

When I talk about trail running, I am astounded at how many people have vocalized to me that they are afraid of their personal safety should they run alone. That thought has crossed my mind, too. But here is my response: What if all of us who were nervous about using the trails used them? There is strength in numbers.
