Takeaways from the first 100 days

The first 100 days of the Trump administration will be remembered more for its tweets, gaffs and outright lies than its accomplishments. We learned that Obama didn’t wiretap Trump Tower, that Hitler did use chemical weapons against his own people and that a powerful armada was taking its own sweet time steaming to North Korea, all contrary to White House assertions.

The one clear win for the administration was the Gorsuch confirmation, but it took the dangerous precedent of the nuclear option to accomplish that. The real winner of the first 100 days has been the Constitution. Its system of checks and balances has prevented the repeal of Obamacare without a suitable replacement and the blockage of the travel ban thanks to a “a little island in the Pacific” that happens to be a state. The Congress and FBI continue their investigations of Russian interference in the 2016 election and citizens are holding the government accountable through lively town halls and demonstrations. Even the reviled media are getting their act together by firing two men who terrorized the female staff at Fox News.

Democracy is alive and well. God bless America.
