A county commissioner and school board member said he’s seeking the Republican nomination for the state’s 1st Congressional District in 2018.
Mark Hounsell of Conway is Carroll County commissioner and a Conway School Board member. He’s also a labor representative to the state’s Public Employee Labor Relations Board. The 65-year-old Hounsell was a state senator in the 1980s.
Hounsell joins two other Republicans seeking the seat of Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, who’s stepping down after her term ends. They are state Sen. Andy Sanborn of Bedford and former Liquor Commission chief of enforcement Eddie Edwards.
Democrats running include businessman Deaglan McEachern; state Rep. Mindi Messmer; Executive Councilor Chris Pappas; former AFL-CIO head Mark MacKenzie; former Somersworth mayor Lincoln Soldati; Rochester City Attorney Terence O’Rourke, and former Marine Maura Sullivan.
