A series of thunderstorms that swept through northern New England over the weekend were followed by some natural beauty and sunny forecast for the holiday week.

Strong gusts knocked down trees and tree limbs, and deluges of rain slowed traffic. After the storms on Sunday, rainbows emerged throughout the region, including several in Bradford, N.H.

As the violent weather swept across New England, storms knocked out power to thousands across the region. In Maine, more than 1,000 homes and businesses lost electricity Sunday in the Central Maine Power territory. Even more lost electricity in thunderstorms the day before.

In Westbrook, Maine, emergency officials evacuated concertgoers from the Maine Savings Pavilion because of dangerous weather Saturday evening.

The National Weather Service said sunny, warm weather is ahead for the Fourth of July week.
