Consider teaching an adult education class this fall. If you have a talent, hobby, knowledge and a passion to share it with other interested adults, why not get paid to do it? The next set of offerings will take place between mid-October and winter break. Classes can be a single class or a series that can run up to eight weeks. It can be for one hour a night or three. It can be related to your day job or something totally different, such as music, languages, art, crafts, technology, cooking, photography, computer software, IPAD or IPhone apps, health and exercise. Summer concerts will go on for the 24th year at the Alan and Savina Hartwell Memorial Bandstand, Tilton Island, on Route 3 this summer in July and August from 6 to 8:30 p.m., weather permitting. Local business help sponsor some of the concerts in the series. Franklin Savings Bank, Kenny Partridge Construction and Gale Insurance have been sponsors since the beginning. The towns of Tilton and Northfield underwrite some concerts, the Tilton-Northfield Rotary and the Salatiello Family Trust contribute and the rest is paid for by the Hartwell family.
Nominations are open for the annual First Amendment Award of the Nackey S. Loeb School of Communication in Manchester. The award honors diligence in protecting free press and speech liberties. First Amendment recipients receive a bronze eagle sculpture and a $1,500 award. Nominations forms are available at loebschool.org or 627-0005. The deadline to nominate is Sept 12.
The Northwood Congregational Church, built in 1840, has been under rehabilitation since September. The congregation raised more than $250,000 and received a LCHIP grant for $200,000. With the money raised, the church rebuilt the front porch, the foundation and sills. On Sunday, the church will hold a dedication during the worship service at 9 a.m. For more details, call 942-7116.
