The second significant snow storm of the season hit New England on Tuesday, forcing the closure of schools and making roads slick.
Slightly over 3 inches of wet snow had fallen at Concord airport by early afternoon, as precipitation turned to rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Other parts of southern New Hampshire reported similar amounts, but higher elevations in the North County got much more: The town of Randolph, for example, had 11 inches of snow by early afternoon. Closer to Concord, Crotched Mountain Ski Area reported almost six inches.
New Hampshire state troopers cleared at least six accidents by 10 a.m. There was no word of major injuries.
“Along the coast, we expect a transition to rain in the late afternoon,” said meteorologist Chris Kimble.
Wally Delia, shoveling the sidewalk outside of his chocolate store Cocoa Bean of Vermont in Montpelier, said he felt the forecast for 6 to 10 inches in his city was “just a dusting,” at most.
“It’s about time. We need some ground cover,” he said.
