■The Penacook farmers market begins its 10th year Monday at 95-97 Village St. The market will run each Monday from 4 to 6:30 p.m., through Sept. 30, except July 1 and Sept. 2.

■The City of Concord Planning Board will hold a public hearing regarding the proposed CATCH housing project at 95-97 Village St., at its next meeting on Wednesday in City Council Chambers. CATCH is looking to build 42 apartment units in six buildings. The planning board meeting begins at 7 p.m. More information about this public hearing and the development project can be found on the City of Concord website at concordnh.gov.

■On Wednesday, the Penacook Branch Library’s book club will meet at 7 p.m. at the library on Merrimack Street to discuss The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir by Jennifer Ryan. New members are always welcome whether or not they have read this particular book. Future book selections are posted at the library.

EAST SIDEGrange to meet

■Concord Grange 322 will meet June 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the IBEW Hall in the conference room. The Grange is making plans for the annual “Meet, Eat, and Greet” at Keach Park in conjunction with a Nevers’ Second Regiment Band concert July 23 at 7 p.m. The Grange members will be serving all kinds of homemade desserts for everyone to enjoy. ■The 45th Annual Market Days Festival returns to downtown Concord Thursday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The free event features food, shopping, music, over 150 vendors and hours of community fun. ■The Concord Public Pools are open for the season starting today at 12:30 p.m. Pools located on the west side are Garrison, 31 Hutchins St.; Kimball, 171 N. ■The Nevers’ Second Regiment Band will play Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m. at the Kiwanis Waterfront Park, behind Everett Arena. There is no need to register and no fees. Bring a chair, the family and a snack while you enjoy the concert series.

■The Concord Public Library is offering “Paws for Pages,” a program designed to help kids improve their reading and communication skills, on Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mr. T and Clarabel are certified through Therapy Dogs International and will be on-hand with their handlers in the Children’s Room. ■Marek Bennett’s comic adaptation of this actual Civil War memoir brings to life the dry humor and grim conviction of teacher-turned-soldier Freeman Colby, in The Civil War Diary of Freeman Colby, Volume 2: 1863. In the continuing saga of a Yankee schoolteacher in the Union Army, young Freeman Colby joined the 39th Massachusetts Regiment in search of “better returns,” but now he just wants to survive the war and return home to his friends and family in New England. Marching deeper into the war-torn heart of Virginia, he crosses paths with countless fellow survivors. This wide-ranging graphic novel weaves together their stories with Colby’s actual letters home, laying bare the day-to-day human struggles that shaped one of the most consequential years in American history. This performance lab will take place in Hatbox 2: The Shack, the former Radio Shack in the mall. It is from 10 a.m. to noon.

■Also at the Hatbox, Absinthe & Opium Burlesque presents “Once Upon A Time” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. As summer is here, it is natural to have nostalgic, sentimental, feelings of bittersweet longing for childhood and for the books we read on summer days. These are the fairy tales, nursery rhymes, poems and more that make up the inspiration for the all new production of “Once Upon a Time.” The people of the troupe will bring an all-out tour de force into the stories you may remember most from your childhood, but with a twist. The performances will include, as always, the art of the striptease, comedy, dance, singing and high jinks galore.

■An eclectic series of music concerts continues its second season at the Hatbox Theatre, featuring acts from many genres, including jazz, classical, pop, soul, world music and country.
