A Concord woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a recovery center on South State Street.

Angelina Sands, 32, was recently charged with a felony count of theft in connection with the incident. Sands, a receptionist at the time, is accused of stealing from Chrysalis Recovery Center at 112 S. State St. between April 2017 and September 2017, according to court documents.

Police allege in a sworn affidavit that Sands stole โ€œa substantial amount of cash from both the business as well as its clients prior to her termination.โ€ Following a careful review of financial records, detectives ultimately determined that Sands had stolen a total of $3,590, stemming from 14 different thefts, according to a sworn police affidavit.

The center said it reimbursed all of its affected clients.

Sands was tasked with taking payments from clients and had access to the centerโ€™s accounting system.

When interviewed by police in spring 2018, she initially denied having ever stolen from clients or manipulating financial records, the affidavit says. By phone, she agreed to a follow-up interview that September, but then told police she had hired a lawyer.

Sands is next scheduled to face a judge in Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord in mid-May.
