In the first full week of action for all the local spring sports programs, Amelia Bassett, of the Hopkinton High School girls’ lacrosse team, stood above the rest to earn the Monitor Player of the Week award.
Bassett, a sophomore attacker, scored 13 goals for the Hawks in a 1-1 week to kick off the new season. Bassett accounted for nearly half of Hopkinton’s scoring output with her performance, notching a staggering seven goals in a season-opening 17-10 win against Gilford and helping the Hawks stay close with perennial powerhouse Derryfield with six more goals in a 14-12 loss.
Bassett’s domination on the attack allowed her to edge out Bishop Brady boys’ lacrosse team’s Bryce Johnson (10 goals, two assists), Laconia girls’ lacrosse team’s Skyler Tautkus (nine goals, two assists) and Concord baseball team’s Griffin Gilbert (eight strikeouts, three hits allowed in complete game shutout) for this week’s award.
