A Center Barnstead woman is accused of driving 15 miles in the wrong direction on interstates 293 and 93 early Sunday morning before she was taken into custody.
Carley Tate, 24, faces charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless conduct in connection with the incident. She was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned May 23 in Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord.
New Hampshire State Police said they first received a report of a wrong-way driver traveling north in a southbound lane of Interstate 293 in Manchester about 2:50 a.m. Multiple people called in to dispatch to report that they were nearly struck by the vehicle, a 2014 Volkswagen Passat.
The vehicle ultimately continued onto Interstate 93 and traveled through Hooksett and Bow. Troopers in Concord assisted by laying out spike strips that deflated two of the Volkswagenโs tires, ultimately causing the vehicle to slow down and stop in Bow.
Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Trooper Matthew Field at Matthew.Field@dos.nh.gov.
