When organizers say Market Days in Concord is a rain or shine event, they mean it.
The beginning of the three-day downtown festival coincides with the forecast for some wet weather rolling in Thursday morning.
“Bring a raincoat and have some fun because everybody will be out there,” said Dawn Badami, the executive director of event organizer Intown Concord.
Months of prep work was coming to an end Wednesday with vendors expected to start arriving as early 6 a.m. Thursday, just hours before the 10 a.m. kickoff. That’s just about the time the National Weather Service was predicting showers to arrive in Concord. Friday’s forecast is looking dryer and Saturday is expected to be warm and sunny.
All the stages have canopies as do most vendors, Badami said, and if the weather gets really wild, patrons will be encouraged to take cover in a safe place. It’s rare to have perfect weather for a three-day summer festival, she said.
“If you plan everything by the weather, you’d never leave the house,” Badami said, adding she and others are watching the forecast and hoping the showers miss Concord altogether.
