It’s already time to think about signing up kids in first through sixth grades for fall youth soccer. At the Salisbury Historical Society meeting June 14, the 2016 scholarship winner presented her winning essay and received her check before the meeting. Celine Burrows ranked sixth out of 183 in her class and was president of the National Honor Society in her school. She attended a course run by a Dartmouth professor who said that she is the kind of student whom they want at Dartmouth. She received the principal’s award for academic excellence, and she is a New Hampshire Scholar graduate. Celine spearheaded an anti-bullying campaign for her school and created a mentorship program for freshmen. It is interesting to note that Celine won the Salisbury Historical Society academic award when she was a student in the fifth grade in Salisbury elementary school. She intends to become a physician.

The independent recreational soccer program is open to children in kindergarten through twelfth grade, in the Merrimack Valley School District. In Webster today, it will hold the first registration day from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Webster Soccer Field. There are six different classes set up according to the child’s grade in school. The Webster Free Public Library will hold a registration time Monday for the summer reading program. The first 30 kids to sign up will receive a registration packet complete with official bookmark, pencil and badge, as well as some fun activity sheets. The program begins July 11.
The library book group will meet Thursday at 7:15 p.m. to discuss “The Boys in the Boat,” Daniel James Brown’s nonfiction account of the nine Americans who brought home the gold in rowing at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
The Women’s Union Group of Webster will meet at the home of Sue Barnes on Tuesday at noon for a sandwich meal with a short business meeting.
