A Tamworth teenager died Monday after a police pursuit ended in a single-vehicle crash on Route 113 in Sandwich, according to state police.
Jake Davison, 19, suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene, police said.
State Police Sgt. Joseph Shackford reported that he had attempted to stop a 2001 Volkswagon Jetta on Route 25 in Tamworth on a motor vehicle violation. But the vehicle didn’t stop and continued at a high speed onto Route 113, where Davison at times turned off the vehicle’s lights, police said.
Shackford ultimately decided to discontinue his pursuit of the vehicle and shut off his emergency lights. Soon after, Davison lost control of the Jetta, which left the roadway and struck a tree, police said. The crash occurred in the area of Foss Flats Road.
A portion of Route 113 was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
