This fall, seventh-grade science teacher Jan Dwinnells taught her students at the Weare Middle School about the 1938 Great Flood, the subsequent construction of the Hopkinton-Everett dam system, and how it had an everlasting impact on the town . On Nov. 9, the Hopkinton-Everett Flood Control Project became the students’ science classroom for the day as they hiked five miles through the Flood Control Area in East Weare Village to the Everett Dam. Prior to the trip, students viewed a slideshow on the Hurricane and Great Flood of 1938 and completed a mapping task of the Flood Control Area using maps furnished by the USACE Rangers.
