A Belmont man was sentenced to nine years in federal prison Thursday for trafficking methamphetamine.
Joseph Callahan, 36, previously pleaded guilty Aug. 30 to possessing more than five grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Belknap County law enforcement executed search warrants of Callahan’s residence on Arlene Drive on July 31, 2017, according to court records. During the search, authorities seized approximately 24 grams of methamphetamine, Suboxone, digital scales, more than $13,000 in cash and three stolen firearms. Callahan was arrested at the scene.
“Even in the midst of the opioid crisis, methamphetamine presents a very serious threat to the safety of our community,” U.S. Attorney Scott Murray said in a statement. “We will continue to work each day with our law enforcement partners to identify, prosecute, and incarcerate those who are distributing this very dangerous drug.”
The case was investigated by local, county and federal authorities.
