The Concord School Board authorized $5 million bond to replace two of the district’s school roofs Monday night.
The money will be used to fix large portions of the Broken Ground Elementary School and Concord High School roofs, which are around 30 years old. District officials said the new polyurethane roofs will outlast the bond by about 30 years.
The Broken Ground project will replace 55,000 square feet of the school’s roof covering the main building and the gym. It’s expected to cost about $1.8 million.
The high school’s roof has been replaced in sections since 2009. The most recent leg will replace the roof covering the west and east wings of CHS and the gym. That portion will cost about $3.3 million.
The district has set an aggressive timeline to get the roofs done – they expect both projects to be completed by August.
