Fran Wendelboe writes (Monitor Opinion, Aug. 28): “A Democratic committee recently fired half a dozen staffers for the sole reason that they were too white. Nobody complained about the staffers’ ability to do their jobs; nobody complained about the content of their character. All they cared about was the color of their skin.”

What does this even mean? There is no specific committee cited, no clue what you are referring to. Is this made up? Gossip? It is totally meaningless except that it puts forward a false narrative.

We are faced with a president in our country who targets black and brown people for derision and deportation. And we are faced with Republicans who never speak out against him and his hate.

He accepts chants of violence at his rallies and still no Republicans speak up. If we are going to talk content of character, we should start right there.

You and your colleagues should speak out about this rather than stand up straw people so you can try to take shots at those of us who are fighting to keep our democracy and all people in our country safe.
