May 13 at noon
Music School faculty members Matt Dickey, violin, and Kathryn Southworth, piano, will present a program built around two masterpieces of the violin and piano repertoire: J.S. Bach’s b minor Sonata and Claude Debussy’s Sonata No. 3. Joining Matt to perform Max Reger’s Violin Duos is violinist and Music School String Department Chair Bozena O’Brien. Retiring this year after 35 years at the Music School, Bozena is excited that Matt will succeed her as String Department Chair, so this concert will be a wonderful picture of their collaborative spirit.
June 10 at noon
Music School faculty members Jazimina MacNeil, mezzo-soprano, and Kathryn Southworth, piano, celebrate the season with a host of flowering springtime songs. The concert title, “Sweet Lovers Love the Spring,” is drawn from Gerald Finzi’s song cycle “Let Us Garlands Bring,” with texts by Shakespeare, which is the centerpiece of the concert. Springtime has certainly inspired composers from Brahms to Hoagy Carmichael, so audiences can expect a bouquet of beautiful and varied songs, livestreamed from the Music School’s Recital Hall.
The Bach’s Lunch Series is sponsored by The Timothy and Abigail B. Walker Lecture Fund. For more information, please call 228-1196 or visit ccmusicschool.org.
