The Pembroke Historical Society will conduct a tour of the Pembroke Street cemetery, located adjacent to 374 Pembroke St., on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. The focus will be on some Revolutionary War veterans who are interred there. Society President Ayn Whytemare will lead attendees on the tour of the oldest graveyard in Pembroke, stopping at the gravesites of some early residents of Pembroke who fought in the American Revolutionary War. Colonels, Captains, and Privates will be featured as well as the brewing controversy based around the town’s founding that came to a head in the midst of the darkest days of the war. From these stories, attendees can imagine the unbelievable suffering our ancestors endured to build the foundation of our modern democracy. The event is free and open to the public.
