Fire crews remain on the scene in Weare on Tuesday morning after a brush fire spread to nearly seven acres.
The Weare Fire Department responded around 2 p.m. Monday to a brush fire near Mt. Dearborn Road that had already grown to about three acres.
Lt. Wayne Meattey of the Weare Fire Department said that as of Tuesday morning, the fire had been contained and firefighters were working to extinguish the remaining hot spots.
โI would estimate itโll be another two days, today and tomorrow, for the fire to be completely extinguished,โ Meattey said.
At the same time, road closures remain in effect for Deering Center Road from Hodgdon Road to Corliss Drive, as well as on Mt. Dearborn Road to Maplewold Road and Deering Center.
While the fire has generated some smoke, Meattey noted it is not enough to warrant a health advisory.
The firefighting effort drew support from several surrounding communities, with mutual aid coming from Dunbarton, Allenstown, Goffstown, New Boston, Deering, Henniker, Hillsborough, Antrim, Francestown, Laconia, and more.ย
The Hillsborough Police Department also deployed a drone to assist crews in assessing the scope of the blaze.
โIt did help us in the initial size-up,โ Meattey said. โWe had already located the fire, but it did help us with determining the size and scope.โ
To prevent exhaustion, firefighters from across the state were rotating through shifts. At least three command posts were set up where responders can rest, rehydrate, and get food. Two ambulances remained on standby.
No injuries had been reported, and no one in the area had to be evacuated.
