Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer and the start of fall. This year, there’s no shortage of fun to be had whether you’re planning a mini-staycation, hosting friends, visiting family or simply looking for a good time.
Here’s a list of all the hottest happenings, designed to help you savor the last of the warm weather before the crisp air sets in.
Friday, August 29
Start off your weekend with an outdoor performance by the band Northern Cross in The Courtyard at Arts Alley in Concord. Inspired by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the tribute group strives to honor the harmonies created by their musical idols. They will play songs spanning across many genres, delighting listeners all the way.
Saturday, August 30
Make your way to the Hopkinton State Fair to experience small-town tradition at its best.
Open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday (and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday), the fair celebrates agriculture, community and entertainment with rides, food, musical performances and attractions such as the Demolition Derby Grandstand Show. There will also be frisbee dogs showing off their skills and sports stunt shows.
Why not make a day of it and experience Hopkinton’s favorite event of the year? Visit hsfair.org for more information, including details on ticket pricing and packaging.
Sunday, August 31
Spend some time in Suncook and begin your day at Shirley’s Kitchen with a cozy brunch. The restaurant opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m., so you have plenty of time to get in a meal. If you’re in the mood for more music, meander over to Pembroke City Limits for a funky reggae performance by Boom Lava, happening at 2 p.m.
While you’re in Suncook Village, stop by the newly-opened Vintage Cup Coffee Co. for a hot drink and a bite to eat anytime between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you’re searching for something stronger, check out Oddball Brewing, open from 1-6 p.m. that day. Be sure to take a stroll through the village and check out all the wonderful locally-owned businesses while you’re there.
Monday, September 1
It will now officially be the start of September, so use this day as a chance to get in some time outdoors. Drive to the seacoast for a beach stroll or swim (but beware of riptides!) or go for a hike in the mountains.
If you’re looking to stay closer to home, take a walk in Marjorie Swope Park for a beautiful view of Concord in the distance. You could also have a picnic on the State House lawn or check out one of the nearby town forests. The Concord Trails subcommittee also has a wonderful network of trails in the city that you can explore: https://www.concordnh.gov/1033/Trails-Maps-and-Trails-Information.
Whatever you do, have a blast! With fall getting into full swing, there will be many more activity recommendations cominhg your way, so stay tuned. See you next week!
