I first met Zandra Rice Hawkins, Concord City Councilor for Ward 10, when I was a student at Concord High School getting involved in gun violence prevention advocacy for the first time. It was right after the Parkland shooting, and as a state and community leader, Zandra had stepped up to mentor high school students and help connect us to one another and advocacy opportunities. It did not take long for me to see how fierce, thoughtful, and brilliant Zandra is, facing difficult challenges head on and always looking to build coalitions to solve problems. I was proud to support her during her first successful run for city council for Ward 10 the following year, and cannot state enough how fortunate the Concord community and state is to have her fighting to make our communities safer, more equitable, and truly inclusive.
When I initially considered running for Concord School Board in 2020, Zandra was the first person I spoke with, and I heeded her experience, guidance, and ideas as I made the choice to run and serve in public office. Now we are in 2023, and I am still in awe of Zandra and am grateful that the Concord City Council has her voice and passion to continue to move the city forward. I am proud to endorse Zandra Rice Hawkins for re-election as Ward 10 City Councilor and encourage constituents to go to her website to learn more about this exceptional candidate and vote on November 7th.
