Why I Support Jeff Wells

In 13 years on the School Board, I’ve been part of some significant decisions. One of nine voices that have shown varying ability to balance quality education with the community’s ability to pay for it.

The best boards are comprised of all manner of citizens. Nine people who represent different political views, professional backgrounds, social classes and generations. Nine people who begin conversations with nine different perspectives.

The least trusted boards are those comprised of a majority who share political and social experiences. My first year on the board several members were in the same social group, which was awkward. We are right back there.

Cara Meeker has been a good board member. Excellent at policy work and managing the nuances of language. She is also closely affiliated in her political and social connections with many current members. Like several board members, she has only lived in Concord a handful of years.

Jeff Wells will bring much needed balance to our board. He has poured hours into giving voice to those who don’t feel heard. With the departure of Jim Richards, he will maintain both male and retirement age representation. His social/political connections are not board members.

He will upset the apple cart. Although only Zone B citizens can vote for him, he will fight for the East Concord residents angered over their potential lack of say in the sale of Eastman School. He will maintain the perspective only long time residents can bring.
Several board members support Meeker, I support Jeff Wells.
