The Grappone Auto Group has completed the sale of two of its five franchises, Toyota and Hyundai, as it moves into the fourth generation of family ownership.

The Toyota and Hyundai franchises are being sold to McGovern Auto Group, which owns dealerships throughout the Northeast, mostly in eastern Massachusetts. The sale was announced in April.

The change comes after Robert J. Grappone, whose grandparents started the firm, sold ownership in the company’s Ford and Honda franchises to his daughter, Amanda Grappone Osmer. Osmer already owns Grappone Mazda.

The firm dates back to 1924 when Italian immigrants Rocco and Emanuela Grappone bought a Gulf service station and an Oldsmobile franchise in Concord.

Their son John later moved the operation to Bow and the company acquired the five brands that today comprise Grappone Automotive Group. His sons took over the business and eventually handed it off to Osmer, who oversaw the move of Grappone Mazda to Concord in 2022. The remaining franchises are still in Bow.
