Israel: Reality beyond stereotypes
Most letters and My Turn articles regarding Israel are very negative and anti-Israel, cluttered with misinformation. Therefore, I wish to share some positives regarding the Jewish state. I suppose most readers are unaware of the recent appointment of Maj. Ella Waweya as the new Israel Defense Forces Arabic language spokesperson. Maj. Waweya is the most senior female Arab Muslim officer in the military, replacing the retiring Col. Avichay Adraee. Once again, Maj. Waweya is an Arab/Muslim woman and proud Israeli.
Additional interesting Israeli statistics. Approximately 49% of pharmacists are Arab, 25% of physicians are Arab, 27% of Nurses are Arab and 27% of Dentists are Arab. About 40% of all health care workers are Arab. Arab representation in the health professions are higher than their 215 share of the population.
Arab students are heavily represented in health care and education, but remains lower in high-tech and management sectors. Finally, the University of Haifa has the highest proportion of Arab students, 41%.
