Keep budget bills clean

Although I am not a Republican, I commend Republican Representative Michael Harrington for introducing HB 1166, which would prohibit future bi-annual state budget bills from including any changes not required to implement the two-year budget.

Budget bills commonly include politically controvertial legislation that has nothing directly to do with implementing the budget. Burying such legislation in budget bills is a tactic used by both parties to enact partisan programs without legislative or public scrutiny.

Letโ€™s all tell our state legislators we want to end this political tactic and keep future budget bills clean by passing HB 1166.
